PRAYER
After my talk with God, I am reminded that even in our confusion and sorrow, the Lord remains close to the brokenhearted. As a community, country and world bewildered by all that is happening, we come together carrying a weight that words can barely hold. We are questioning, grieving, and trying to make sense of pain that touches every one of us. And so, in this moment, we lift our hearts to God—not to escape the hard truths before us, but to face them with His courage, His compassion, and His unity.
We acknowledge before God that confusion, anxiety, depression, and mental illness are not signs of spiritual failure. They are not a lack of faith or a weakness of character. These struggles can become real health conditions that require care, urgency, and understanding—just as any physical illness would. Too often, isolation and silence have been our response. Too often, we have told one another to “be strong,” “pray harder,” or “push through,” even when someone was quietly drowning. These patterns have caused harm, and so today we choose a different path.
We choose to reach out. We choose to pray for one another. We choose to lift our community, our country, and our world before God.
We pray for healing in every individual who is hurting. We pray for comfort for those who feel alone, unseen, or overwhelmed. We pray for the strength to break the confusion, silence, and taboos that have kept mental health in the shadows for far too long.
We also pray for wisdom—wisdom to recognize that God works through both faith and professional care. Prayer can steady the heart but trained mental health professionals can help heal the mind. do consult as needed. God has gifted people with knowledge, skill, and compassion for this very purpose. Our responsibility is to embrace both. This is how we honor those we have lost and protect those who remain.
We ask for the grace to truly see one another’s God‑given gifts. To ask, sincerely, “How are you doing,” and to stay long enough to hear the truth. To be present for one another in ways that interrupt isolation, confusion, and despair—and restore hope.
May our community, our country, and our world become places where no one suffers in silence, where every voice matters, where justice stands firm, and where compassion guides our actions. May God teach us to hold one another close, speak openly, and walk together toward healing.
Amen.
